Choosing a Home Inspector

Choosing a home inspector can be tricky, but you need a good one to make sure the job is well done.

When you hire a home inspector, you should probably make sure they have some certifications. The most popular certifications are from ASHI and NACHI.

So, the two major companies are listed below. ASHI is the American Society of Home Inspectors. NACHI is the International Association of Certified Home Inspectors.

Most, if not all, states don’t require home inspectors to be licensed. So, you need to have some basis on hiring the home inspector. A good start is to make sure they are at least certified by either of these organizations.

In any event, whether they are certified by one or the other, you then need to make sure the inspector is good. Here is an article on choosing a home inspector that you should read from ThinkGlink.com.

As you consider home inspectors, make sure the one you choose is right for you. Will the home inspector simply check off boxes of a list? Will the inspector actually take a look at things that need to be checked out?

You want to make sure the structure is checked out in a home inspection. This means inspecting the foundation, walls, roof, and other structural components of the home. It also means looking at the expensive fixtures such as the air-conditioning and heating components.

If you are buying a condominium, you still should have the inspector look over some of the common elements in smaller buildings.
