Smoke detectors can fail. Smoke detectors may be faulty. Smoke detectors can drive you crazy with their beeping. Why suffer. It’s easier to replace them and know that you have something that works.

You might want to do the same thing for your carbon monoxide detectors. Smoke detectors can be as cheap as $10 dollars each and go up from there. Some detectors are combo units that are both smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

If your home has all of the detectors wired together so that when one detector goes off, they all go off, you might want to replace all the detectors at the same time and make sure they will all work together.

If your detectors are stand alone detectors that plug into the wall, you can always replace those detectors with others that plug into the wall at the same place.

Above all else, you want to make sure that you have working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors working in your home. You need carbon monoxide detectors if you have any appliances that consume a fuel other than electricity. This means gas fireplaces, stoves, hot water heaters, clothes dryers, or any other appliance that uses a fuel that will give off carbon monoxide.
